The McKinney Contest is Rensselaer's writing competition for undergraduate and graduate students. All enrolled students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities that competition affords.

Entries will be accepted in undergraduate and graduate divisions in each of the following categories:

- Fiction or Drama
- Poetry
- Essays
- Electronic Media


The deadline for receipt of entries is 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2009.

Annual McKinney Contest -- Peter Carey, Guest Speaker

Peter Carey, the speaker for this year's McKinney ceremony, will present prizes to McKinney winners, read from his work, and respond to questions starting at 8:00 p.m. in Darrin Communications Center on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Mr. Carey will also hold a question-and-answer seminar at 4:00 p.m. in the RPI Heffner Alumni House earlier on the same day.

Peter Carey has been called "Australia's finest fiction writer." Over a career spanning twelve novels that have invited comparisons to the work of Kurt Vonnegut and Evelyn Waugh, Carey has received numerous major awards, including the Booker Prize (twice) and the Commonwealth Prize (twice). His newest novel is His Illegal Self (2008). Set in the 1970s, it follows the adventures of seven-year-old Che SEvent Details
